Having written a Blog for the previous two years about our visits to the Western Cape, I determined that this year, everyone would, by now, be totally bored with my ramblings and would therefore have no interest whatsoever in my output!
Well I am delighted to report that thanks to some serious lobbying from my one fan - she is with us on this holiday and it isn't Linda - I have decided to provide a little output about what we are doing or at least, have been doing. This won't be on a daily basis but more likely against a background of have I anything interesting to write about? If the first three days are anything to go by, then I might be releasing at least two dispatches per day!
Cape Town in our Winter has for Linda and I become something of a drug and our periods of stay here become longer and longer. Having started off some seven years previous with a stay of less than a week because we didn't think we would be able to get on our planned flight home, this year it has turned into a marathon of nine weeks with us not being at all bothered if we don't get a flight home at all!
There are reasons for this, not least of which is the wall to wall sunshine, stunning scenery, the same time zone (yes, no jet lag), friendly people, amazing food, an exchange rate which still provides incredible value and finally, the company of family and friends who you love. What a great recipe for a nine week stay.
Family includes our own children and grandchildren together with brothers and wives and a selection of other friends who actually, we feel are more like family as well. Top of the list of course, particularly because one of them was so complimentary about my blogging, are Ann and Paul who are sharing our rented home for six weeks. Credit to them for their resilience because having spent less time than this with us last year they surprised us by wanting to come back for more in 2017! If the first three days are anything to go by then we are going to enjoy another fantastic stay.
There is absolutely no argument that the four of us already here, have become ambassadors for the Western Cape and to a large degree can be credited for the boom in tourism that is currently being experienced. The country continues to have its problems but none of these should put off thoughts of a visit because once you have been, you will want to return. Like the UK and of course, many other countries, South Africa needs tourism. I hope that my writings this year will make you want to visit.
Please note that no money was received from the South African Tourist Board for the content of this Blog!
